On the Second Day of Christmas

My wonderful family,

This week has been super awesome, but at the same time super crazy. Elder Zaugg is leaving on Friday, so that is coming up really soon. We are really excited for him, but at the same time sad that he is leaving us. One of my previous companions, Elder Schwendiman is also leaving on Friday as well. They have been some of the greatest missionaries I have known during my time here at the referral center. I have great trust and great respect for every other missionary that goes and serves their mission as well, because they are not serving themselves, they are serving the Lord.

Two investigators got baptized today, Mary from the Philippines and Gabriel from Argentina. I have loved teaching them. I am amazed at the change that both of them made. Mary had to make some tough choices to be baptized but once she did and she started going to church things just fell into place. Gabriel was always interesting to teach because he really knew how to apply the teachings of the bible and the Book of Mormon into his life. I am so grateful for the missionaries that helped guide Gabriel and Mary to the point of where they felt confident they could take the necessary steps to be baptized.

Today we went to a Devotional for all the Provo temple workers. Elder Renlund and Sister Renlund spoke. Something that was cool that Elder Renlund said was, "The doctrine of baptism for the dead is earth shattering because it proves that The Plan Of Salvation is for all." Something that Sister Renlund said was, "When we go to the temple, we become more spiritually mature. We grow up in the Lord."

We talked with Gabriel. It sounded like his baptism was a really special experience for him. We reviewed the principle of the Gift of the Holy Ghost, and how it would help him as he went about his life. We also talked a bit about how following the Spirit and doing righteous things would help in his journey of becoming more like Christ. To go with that, we committed him to watch the talk by Elder Hales, "Becoming a Disciple of Our Lord Jesus Christ."

Brother Jones and Sister Joy D. Jones came to the MTC for the Tuesday evening devotional. Sister Jones said a lot of good things.

These are some of the things that stuck out to me of what she said.

-"Safety lies in every word spoken by the prophet."
-"Priesthood power gives us the ability to work more effectively."
-"Priesthood power is not freely given but is earned."
-"The Savior cares only that you do your best."

Gabriel's baptism

I had an adventure with Elder Zaugg today. We went to physical therapy. While he was with the therapist I sat in the waiting room and talked with one of the secretaries. The one I talked with was from California and had moved to Utah after living there, just like me. It was interesting to be talking about California again because it brought back some funny memories that I have not thought about in a while. One of these memories was when there were the fires going on in California and the sky was just black with smoke. It was on Natalie's birthday so Alicia and I joked that she forgot to blow out her candles. Overall the appointment went good. Elder Zaugg is almost at normal walking speed, which is so exciting.

We talked with Gene today. He has been studying baptism, but at the same time is not sure if it is the right thing for him yet. We talked with the missionaries and what we are trying to do is to focus on things that will build Gene's testimony and then we will focus more on the topic of Baptism.

Today was the first day of the Light the World initiative. We got a lot of questions about it since they tell people to go to mormon.org for their questions. One question we heard a lot about was people wanted to know where they could find the give vs. get vending machines shown in the day one video of Light The World.

The best temple district!

Today was fantastic. It was Elder Zaugg's last preparation day so we let him decide what we should do and he decided we should do a session at the temple so after our shift finished we did a session and it was amazing. Things just kept on getting better from there. After we had finished it was already almost 4:30 in the afternoon, so we went to dinner at a new place called D.P. Cheese steaks. After we finished that we went to Jamba Juice because it's good and we get a fifty percent discount because we are missionaries. As we were walking to the car we walked past a place called Great Harvest Bread, when they saw us they brought us inside and gave us free pumpkin Chocolate chip cookies. So I would say today was great.

Love,

Elder Stevenson
