Hi Everyone,
My studies have been super awesome this week. I am getting into the Isaiah chapters. It is hard to learn about The Restoration when you don't understand what is going on. But there is always something that you can dig out. Something super good I read this week was 2 Nephi 9:21-23 it says:
21 And he cometh into the world that he may save all men if they will hearken unto his voice; for behold, he suffereth the pains of all men, yea, the pains of every living creature, both men, women, and children, who belong to the family of Adam.
22 And he suffereth this that the resurrection might pass upon all men, that all might stand before him at the great and judgment day.
23 And he commandeth all men that they must repent, and be baptized in his name, having perfect faith in the Holy One of Israel, or they cannot be saved in the kingdom of God.
This really shows me Jesus Christ's love and how much He really did go through for us. We have so many opportunities for this life and the next life because of Jesus Christ. I invite you all to ponder about how Jesus Christ has helped you personally and how you can change so that you can show God and Jesus Christ your love.
I know that The Book of Mormon and The Bible are the word of God. I know that Jesus Christ is our Savior and Redeemer. God has helped me to change and Jesus Christ has performed His Atonement so that I can change. I know that in this church, The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, we have the fullness of the gospel. I say these things in the name of Jesus Christ, amen.
A lot of super cool things happened this week. We started doing finding again after we got adjusted to talking with everyone. We do things a little bit differently here in the Referral Center. When you get a new companion or switch your companion usually what has happened in the past is that people pray over their people they are teaching and separate who will go with whom when they switch companions. So each person takes people they have previously taught into their new companionship. What has happened is since there was only four of us when Elder Savoie left we kept all of the people we were teaching and Elder Arndt brought over everyone they were teaching. So it was interesting having not just a few new people but everyone that Elder Savoie and Elder Arndt were teaching. But we are getting to know them more now. Which is awesome.
Elder Woodruff, Elder Stevenson, and Elder Arndt
"I'm so glad I get to be in this companionship/district/zone/mission"
So Elder Woodruff did something super awesome. He went onto a Bible group and asked if anyone wanted a free Bible. A bunch of people liked and commented on his post, so it is kind of like typing Referral Confirmations. We are finding quite a few people that are interested in learning more this way. I think we found like 8 to 10 people in the afternoon yesterday.
Christy is doing absolutely awesome. She got a job which she has been trying to find one for like 2 months. Not only that but she got a raise her first week. God is truly blessing her. She also gets Sundays off which is fantastic. She said that she wants to go to church and is glad that she is receiving the money for that. It has just been awesome to see God help her as we have met with her.
We talked with a women named Sandy who is from India but is currently living in Indiana. She had questions about the importance of fasting. It was an interesting conversation but we were able to talk with her and tell her about why God has asked us to fast. She was asking the question because she didn't want to follow something because people asked her to but really wanted to have a testimony of it and follow it because she wanted to. Sandy also was able to get a baptism date of November 10th.
We also talked with a man named Nelly who is from Nigeria. He is super awesome. he went to church on Sunday met the ward mission leader and added him into our group. Now the ward mission leader is a member present for Nelly. He also got a baptism date from the missionaries for November 24th. Andy the ward mission leader is super dedicated and is putting in his mission papers. This is something that Andy said to us, "Good morning my brother. I am so much thank God 4 bro Nelly 24 of next month will be brother Nelly baptism day am a ward mission leader i will fellowship him and i will always bring full time missionary to his home."
We are teaching someone named Audrey. She is super awesome. She lives in South Africa. We talked with her about The Message of the Restoration. It went really good. She has a lot of good questions. One of the things that she asked was how does one know that they are in the church of God. She also wanted to know who wrote The Book of Mormon, so we were able to explain a little bit about that as well.
One of the best lessons we had all week was with Vandana, who is our friend that lives in India. Sometimes what we do with a recent convert is we have them teach us a lesson. So Vandana taught us The Restoration and it was super awesome. She said something super cool when she talked about agency. She said we are free to choose our actions but we are not free to choose the consequences of our actions which was really cool. She even gave us a commitment to read the Book of Mormon and pray about it as well as to pray to know if Joseph Smith is a prophet. So that was super awesome. We asked if she wanted to teach us The Plan of Salvation next time and so we are going to hear about The Plan of Salvation.
I hope that you all have a good upcoming week. I love you.
Love,
Elder Stevenson
FUN FACT!
Guess what else. After choir practice we always come back into this one room in the gym. Of course it does not look like the gym anymore, because the floors are covered in gray pads, chairs are set up on the floor and a rostrum is put up for the speaker to speak on. In this room we sit and talk with President Thomas. Well, we were asked to stay in there by Sister Martino. She said that there was someone that she wanted us to meet. A few minutes later Elder Ulisses Soares of the Quorum of the Twelve Apostles came in. President Martino introduced us and told him and his wife who we were and about our mission. We then got to shake both Elder and Sister Soares' hands. The devotional was super good. These are some things that Sister Soares said that I liked.
There will be times when you will feel stressed, this does not mean that you won't feel the spirit.
You can't overcome bad habits without His help.
These are some things that I liked that Elder Soares said.
It is important that people can feel Gods love through you.
Try to envision what you can do for the Lord.
When the spirit touches hearts, hearts change.
I hope that all of you have a great upcoming week. I love you.
